Good Morning and Welcome to the Weekend from my Atlantic Life in Hatteras 😊
So this morning started with a bang....no, it really did - as I was grabbing some coffee from the inn kitchen, there was a bang and a bright flash outside, as a transformer went out at the substation in Hatteras Village. Fortunately, living in an inn, our emergency lighting came on as it was early and still super dark, or I may have been wearing my coffee as opposed to drinking it!
I have to say that the Cape Hatteras Electric Cooperative are fantastic and not only kept their FB page updated with their progress, but they had our power back on within a couple of hours. For some that stay in bed a little longer, they probably wouldn't even have known there had been an outage until they noticed their microwave or coffee maker clock was flashing 😁
Having lived here in Hatteras Village for a couple of years now, I never fail to be impressed by how quickly the linesman get to work when there is a power outage, unlike when we lived on the farm near Hillsborough/Durham, NC, where, if the power went out, it seemed to take an age to restore the power.
With the morning not going quite as normal - I put the gas log fire on in the lounge and set up a nice cozy space, complete with tartan fleece rug on the floor, next to the fire. Seems a little indulgent, but hey, why not.....even Bodie the surf pup decided it was the best place to be when it was 34 degrees with a wind chill taking it to 27 degrees outside🥶
I suddenly decided that today would be a bit of a "Me Day" and quickly informed JB that this was my intention (just in case he had other plans for me!). My plan being to spend the day reading, writing, sorting through my multitude of photos, and daydreaming...📚 ✍📷💭, perhaps later in the afternoon I may cozy up on the sofa to watch a good movie - Now this Is indulgent..... and I won't be feeling guilty about spending my Saturday with me, myself and I.
Are there other things I should, or could be doing? - Absolutely, I've got my ever updating "To Do List", lots and lots of tasks and projects that I could be working on....but today I have decided to put me at the top of my list.
It's all too easy to get so caught up in all the things you need to do, that you simply become overwhelmed and ultimately inefficient, fraught and frustrated. What if you were able to take a time out? A few hours to take a pause and do something just for yourself....
Would you consider that wrong? A waste of time?
I would challenge both those statements - your mental health is as important as your physical health......and it's amazing how many of us completely ignore that fact. As long as we can physically keep going, we'll be fine - Well I'm sorry, but this is really not the case....a healthy mind is critical to both your overall health and happiness.
Taking time out for yourself has so many benefits, including:
Feeling Re-energized - When your mind and body are given the opportunity to rest and relax, afterwards, you'll feel rejuvenated and more motivated to get things done
Perspective - Stepping back from your busy, everyday life and clearing your head, can often give you the mental clarity you need for a refreshing new perspective
Balance - By taking some much needed "Me Time", you are introducing some "balance" into your life......a break from work, stress and everyday pressures, a time to spiritually and emotionally refuel
Creativity - When your mind and body are calmed, you are able to access the more creative areas of your brain....your more easily inspired...and this can lead to some incredible projects
Happiness - It is amazing what a little bit of focused "me time" can do for your happiness "bank". Spending time clearing your head, so you may listen to your heart instead of your head, learning more about yourself, letting your mind wander freely without worry.....gaining energy and motivation, a fresh perspective, mental, emotional and physical balance and allowing yourself to be creative - will all lead to a huge boost to your Happiness!!!!
So, what are you waiting for??? Everyone deserves some "Me Time".....either planned, or like mine today, completely impromptu 💗
Until next time,
Take care, Stay safe and .......please take the time to find yourself some "Me Time", you'll be glad you did!
Love and Hugs,
Pam

Since I stepped back from the crazy job I had a few years ago and found something that was still home based, I have had.much more time to have me time. I found how much I missed just sitting, reading, or just being still. I highly recommend it.
