Pam's Daily Wave...

Good Morning and Welcome to Wednesday from my Atlantic Life in Hatteras 😊

This morning is a tad damp, the rain arrived during the night and, as I was feeling a little under the weather myself, I opted to spend my "me time" at the inn, on a big comfy chair, with a huge mug of coffee and my trusty journal💗

Bodie the surf pup decided to have a lay in this morning.....🥰

As I began writing, I was struggling a little to calm my "crazy little lady brain"..... when one of my all-time favorite poems floated into my head - "Desiderata". For those that read my earlier blog posts, you may remember I posted these beautiful and thought-provoking words last year.

Now, I try not to repeat myself often (although as I'm getting older, this sometimes just happens 😁), but I think some writings are so poignant, so relevant, so thoughtful, and inspirational, that they should be repeated - "Desiderata" is one of those....

Desiderata is a plural noun, with the singular form desideratum, meaning “things wanted or needed.” Written in 1927 by Max Ehrmann, this beautiful piece of writing is timeless, and as applicable to our lives today, as it was in 1927 when it was written.....maybe even more so in our world right now.

I found Desiderata many years ago, and it spoke not only to my head - but more importantly to my soul. I often silently recited - "Go placidly amid the noise and the haste, and remember what peace there can be in silence", when my world had gotten too noisy and stressful.

Please take the time to read Desiderata in full...and if possible, in silence - and remember we are all children of the universe 💖

Desiderata

Go placidly amid the noise and haste,

and remember what peace there may be in silence.

As far as possible without surrender

be on good terms with all persons.

Speak your truth quietly and clearly;

and listen to others,

even the dull and the ignorant;

they too have their story.

Avoid loud and aggressive persons,

they are vexations to the spirit.

If you compare yourself with others,

you may become vain and bitter;

for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.

Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.

Keep interested in your own career, however humble;

it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.

Exercise caution in your business affairs;

for the world is full of trickery.

But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;

many persons strive for high ideals;

and everywhere life is full of heroism.

Be yourself.

Especially, do not feign affection.

Neither be cynical about love;

for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment

it is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years,

gracefully surrendering the things of youth.

Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.

But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.

Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.

Beyond a wholesome discipline,

be gentle with yourself.

You are a child of the universe,

no less than the trees and the stars;

you have a right to be here.

And whether or not it is clear to you,

no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore be at peace with God,

whatever you conceive Him to be,

and whatever your labors and aspirations,

in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.

With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,

it is still a beautiful world.

Be cheerful.

Strive to be happy. — Max Ehrmann, 1927

Until Next Time...

Take care, Stay Safe and....please remember how fortunate we are to live in our precious world 💗

Love and Hugs,

Pam

PS. As the conflict worsens in the Ukraine, I'm continuing to keep the incredibly brave people of the Ukraine in my thoughts and prayers 🙏
